Client overview: A global leader in paper products
Our client, a multinational corporation employing approximately 9,200 people worldwide, operates in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, specializing in paper products. With over €5 billion in annual revenue and around 1,000 employees spread across three production sites in Germany, the company required a new Vice President Supply Chain to support their Western European operations as part of a carefully planned leadership succession strategy.
The challenge: A dual role in a niche market
As part of the company's succession planning, the role demanded an individual with extensive expertise in Supply Chain Management, particularly in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), within the FMCG sector. The role also carried a unique leadership function as primus inter pares within the Western European management team. Additionally, the position required regular presence at two rural production sites in Germany, presenting a geographic challenge in finding top talent willing to commit to working frequently on-site.
Our approach: Targeted search for niche leadership
Understanding the dual nature of the role and the need for on-site presence, Friedrichs & Partner / Kestria Germany focused the search on experienced professionals in the FMCG sector with a track record in Supply Chain Management. We targeted candidates who were not only open to relocating or frequently working in rural regions but also had management experience in similarly structured environments. Our search process was comprehensive, ensuring each candidate’s ability to manage complex supply chains while integrating seamlessly into the existing leadership framework.
Key Search Criteria:
- Expertise in Supply Chain Management & S&OP: Candidates with a proven track record in managing large-scale, complex supply chains.
- Experience in FMCG: Focus on professionals within the paper or related FMCG industries.
- Willingness for on-site engagement: Required frequent presence at rural production sites.
The outcome: Strategic leadership for future growth
After an extensive search process and multiple interview rounds, two highly qualified candidates were shortlisted. Through careful assessments and in-depth discussions, the preferred candidate was selected, offering the right combination of supply chain expertise and leadership capability to excel in the role. The successful hire has since seamlessly transitioned into the leadership team, contributing to the company's operational success in Western Europe.
